Separation anxiety is a normal phase of development in which infants and toddlers experience emotional distress or anxiety when separated from their primary caregiver.
Separation anxiety can vary in its duration and severity. In most children, separation anxiety will develop around 10 - 12 months of age, but could start earlier. It often disappears around 2-3 years of age.
Separation anxiety is often classified into three possible stages:
-protest
-despair
-detachment
