The Lake Loop was voted Britain's Best Bike Ride after being selected from a shortlist of five routes in a competition organized by Halfords, Boardman Bikes, and Cycling Plus magazine. Cycling Plus editor Rob Spedding commented: "The ride faced some incredibly tough competition, but I'm not surprised it won—it's got everything: stunning scenery, quiet roads, and, in Wrynose Pass, a true cycling challenge.".

Stage 1: Duddon Valley - Wrynose - Coniston Water
Your journey begins in the breathtaking Duddon Valley, a hidden gem of unspoiled beauty. From here, you take on the infamous Wrynose Pass—a challenging climb that rewards you with sweeping views of the rugged landscape. At the summit, take a deep breath before plunging into a thrilling descent into the picturesque Langdale Valley, where lush greenery surrounds you and the scenery shifts with every turn. The weather on this ride is ever-changing—one moment, you're basking in sunshine; the next, misty rain rolls in from a neighboring valley, adding to the drama of the journey. The first stage of the ride ends at the shores of the stunning Coniston Water, one of the Lake District’s most beloved and historic lakes.
