Midland - Mr. Lonely - Cover - Rockin' Guitar Version

I liked this song so much I made two versions. One more faithful to the original Guitar tone, and this one - a full on Rock tone. Mr. Lonely! Honk that Tonk, baby! I always say, if you don't like Country music there's something wrong with you, not Country Music. Midland is a fine example of modern real Country. It hearkens back, on purpose, to an era of music that is more authentic than what computer songwriting and recording often sounds like these days. Sterile, and with about as much groove as some dude in the 80s dancing the White Man's Overbite. This is a fine song, moved higher than otherwise maybe, by some truly fine harmony singing. In all the right places.

These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.

Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
It's the awesomeness of Honky Tonk! The feel and groove on the verse is a classic of the genre.

To really get it you have to scrub. A non-chord scrub. It's such a gas to use the Electric Guitar for percussion! You've all done this when you play. This kind of thing is a part of all kinds of Guitar genres, especially Reggae. It's just where you place it.

In Country, this is where you scrub.
