Imager Eric Claeys was kind enough to invite us in for a tour of his remote observatory in New Mexico! Eric has put together a great observatory with some fantastic equipment and is a card carrying member of the Department of Redundancy Department. His experience should be helpful for anyone looking to build a remote observatory.
There is a bit of bad audio in the last couple of minutes that I have captioned so be sure to make sure that the non-auto English captions are turned on to see the hand transcribed text. This should be on by default but if it isn't be sure to enable it.
In the garbled section Eric talks about why the high west wall isn't a problem and also about how he determined how high his piers needed to be. Basically he measured the wall, measured the height of the mount with the instrument in a horizontal position and subtracted to get the needed pier height.
