The best way to describe this remix is that you can now clearly hear where each Beatles voice sits in the mix:
“John is singing there (pointing to the left), George is right in front (pointing to the center), and Paul is over there (pointing to the right).”
As great as the original versions are, this kind of separation simply isn’t possible to hear when listening to them.
This remix isn’t meant to be “better” than the original, but—like all my remixes—it’s designed to give fans a fresh perspective and a new listening experience.
The only change I’ve made is to reposition the vocals: John’s middle harmony is now on the left, George’s lower part sits in the center, and Paul’s top harmony is on the right. The instrumentation remains exactly as it was.
In the original mix, the remaster, and even the official 2019 remix (which I used as the source), the vocals were all blended together—and they were triple-tracked! That means you’re hearing a total of nine voices in this recording. My remix keeps those lush triple-tracks but gives them new clarity by separating the harmonies instead of blending them. This vocal layering technique, which The Beatles adopted from The Beach Boys, was a defining sound of that era.
Recording for “Because” began on August 1, 1969, and wrapped up by August 5. Ringo didn’t play on this track—his only contribution was tapping a hi-hat fed to John, Paul, and George’s headphones for timing, but that part never made it into the final mix.
“Because” also marks the first use of a Moog synthesizer on a Beatles song. This newly invented electronic keyboard was rare and expensive at the time—only a handful of artists could afford one. On this track, John plays guitar, Paul handles the bass, George performs the Moog, and producer George Martin adds electric harpsichord.
Considered one of John Lennon’s most beautiful compositions, “Because” was inspired by Yoko playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata on the piano. John simply reversed the chords, then wrote his eloquent lyrics over them, completing the song.
Thank you so much for listening!
