LORD OF EVERLASTING SPIRIT, I lift my soul to Thee, hungering not only for gifts, but for Thy very breath moving within me.
I do not ask merely for drops of grace, but for the torrent of Thy presence flooding every hollow part of my being.
I confess that I have acted by my own spirit, leaning upon broken reeds and dim lamps, rather than clinging to Thee who art light and breath everlasting.
There is within me a silent ache, a dryness like parched soil, crying for the rain of Thy Spirit to descend.
Give me not weak petitions that flicker and fade, but the burning power of Pentecost that kindles hearts and sets tongues ablaze.
Let me not make peace with the absence of Thy Spirit, for to be without Thee is to be as Samson shorn and unaware.
Let me not rest in little measures nor grow content with distant whispers, but press inward to the fullness promised in Christ.
For Thy Spirit can heal as swiftly as Jesus did the leper, with one touch that removed decades of shame.
He can raise what is dead, as He did Lazarus, calling life from the tomb with but a word.
He can quicken my soul like dry bones taking sinew and breath, standing as an army of praise.
Save me, Lord, from subtle deceits that tell me this emptiness is acceptable, this hunger incurable.
Pierce through the veil of my comfort and awaken holy dissatisfaction until I cry as the deer for waterbrooks.
When I drift from Thee, light up my night with the fire of Thy presence and the torch of living faith.
For I know that without Thee, I move in shadows or in self-made sparks that cannot warm or guide.
Let me not substitute natural skill or cleverness for the divine fire that alone births spirit unto spirit.
Teach me to seek Thee not once nor twice, but continually, as the persistent widow who would not cease knocking.
Teach me not only to wait, but to wait in hope, trusting Thee to pour out what no merit of mine could earn.
Grant me wisdom in longing, that I may use every means Thy Word commends, yet depend not on the means themselves.
Let prayer be not duty alone but fire in my bones, and let Scripture be more than ink—let it be manna and sword.
Is it error to ask for fullness when my heart groans empty, or is this the very cry that pleases Thee?
Am I mistaken when I feel dry, though faith clings and grace abides, unseen as the roots beneath winter’s soil?
Make me understand that absence of sense is not absence of Thee, and stillness may hide deepest workings of grace.
Like the apostles, who through open heavens moved in Thy power with eyes fixed on Christ, teach me to do the same.
For in Him is my life, my joy, my fountain, my strength, and in Him I shall find the Spirit without measure.
Breathe through me as wind in Ezekiel’s valley, bringing life where ruin ruled, and song where silence reigned.
Birth in me a steadfast hunger that is only satisfied by more of Thee, and never by lesser bread.
Teach me to seek the fullness of Thy Spirit only in Jesus, who is my all in all.
By the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, I pray and declare, Amen.
