Patton Was Stopped — Why German Commanders Couldn’t Believe It

Описание:

In September 1944, George Patton's Third Army had covered 400 miles in three weeks and stood 100 miles from Germany with nothing between them and the Rhine River—then the advance suddenly stopped due to fuel shortages.

This documentary examines post-war testimony from German commanders including Chief of Staff Günther Blumentritt, Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt, and General Siegfried Westphal, who revealed in U.S. Army interrogations that Germany had no reserves, no manned defenses, and no ability to stop Patton if he'd continued. Drawing from Foreign Military Studies interrogations and Nuremberg testimony, we trace how German forces used September and October to rebuild their shattered divisions, man the Siegfried Line, and assemble forces for the Battle of the Bulge—none of which would have been possible without the September pause German commanders called the "Miracle of the West."
