In our latest episode, join Kyle and I as we explore the Carrizo Plain National Monument and search for remnant California grassland animals such as pronghorn and Tule Elk.
California has lost almost 99% of its native grassland habitat. California’s Central Valley grasslands and wetlands once beheld a wildlife spectacle rivaling the Masai Mara or Serengeti of Africa. And there is still one remnant grassland where such a display can still be found: The Carrizo Plain National monument, jointly managed by The Nature Conservancy, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bureau of Land Management, and other organizations.
The Carrizo Plain stretches for 250,000 acres along the base of the Temblor Mountains, 60 miles east of San Luis Obispo. Its vast grasslands sustain 15 of California’s threatened and endangered plants and animals and provide a unique opportunity to experience California grasslands as they once were.
WHERE THE WILD ROAM seeks to educate and inform audiences about wildlife and wild places in a new way –with an adventurous, heartfelt, and hosted show that’s free to stream across social media.
Whether you like to hunt, hike, camp, flyfish, paddle, raft or kayak whitewater, mountain bike, backpack, bird watch, or simply enjoy the outdoors, we can all agree that we need to protect wild places and wildlife.
Throughout our first season, we will be highlighting wildlife wild places, and wildlife habitat including: Grasslands, wolves, Wild and Scenic rivers, the Sierra Nevada, palm deserts, Owyhee Canyonlands, and redwood forests.
