Things I HATE About Living In New Smyrna Beach | The LESS Sunny Side Of NSB Life

Now don’t get me wrong, I love living here, but like any place, it’s not all palm trees and ocean breezes. My wife Rachel and I wanted to give you a real look at what day-to-day life is like in New Smyrna Beach Florida, especially the parts people don’t always talk about.
Parking can be a total nightmare, especially during busy weekends or big events. Then there’s hurricane season—it’s not just stressful, it’s also something you really have to plan your life around. And let’s not forget the crowds. Tourists pour into town during the peak months, which means long waits at restaurants and a whole lot of traffic. Speaking of restaurants, even the locals’ favorite spots can have you waiting for what feels like forever.
The cost of living is another challenge. Beachside properties are gorgeous, but they come with a hefty price tag. Add in limited big-box shopping options and you’ll find yourself driving out of town for certain essentials. The drawbridge can also throw off your timing—you’ll never forget that sinking feeling when it goes up right as you’re rushing to an appointment.
And then there are the little things: bugs, wildlife, flooding issues in some areas, and the small-town vibe where everybody seems to know your business. All of this is part of things I hate about living in New Smyrna Beach, and while it’s not all bad, it’s the reality.
