The store bought containers of “Chinese hot mustard” just don’t make the cut. You gotta do this stuff yourself if you want it to taste great. You decide the level of heat, you decide the additives. This right here, this is the stuff.

Ingredients

1/2c Mustard Powder (I prefer Colemans in the bright yellow can)
1/2c Boiling Water
1tsp Neutral oil (Olive is fine, but don’t waste the fancy stuff)
1tsp Kosher Salt

Directions

1. In a small saucepan heat up water (I usually boil just over a cup to cover evaporation)
2. Add mustard powder, salt and oil to a medium sized bowl
3. Whisk in the water to the ingredients in the bowl slowly until everything is well combined
Taste test for your desired heat level. Add more powder to raise the heat or add water to lower the heat.
Refrigerate it for at least 60 minutes prior to use.
