There is a seamless longing pervasive in the entire bhajan, where Meera’s voice permeates through the everyday existence and seeks the beloved (Kanha, Krishna, Kanu, Sanwariya) within the layers of mundane. Kanha breathing life in the beginning of the song is itself an invitation for everyone to be a part of this love communion that Meera’s voice longed to create throughout. The news reaches Gokul, people are now aware that there’s an existence of a being who spreads love through his essence. The same Kanha becomes one with the feminine voice’s thoughts, leaving her longing and writhing in pleasure. This pastoral imagery isn’t a small part of the writing style, it also gives a vivid description of this God-like figure becoming one with the cattle and grasslands. As the song culminates towards the rising melody of Krishna’s flute, she goes into a trance-like state again, only to realise how impossible it is for her to forgo his thought.
___________
English translation of the Songs
In the land of Mathura Kanha is born
The news reached Gokul
I can’t forgo the thought of Sanwariya even for a split second
Kanuda, timelessly I think of you
Kanuda is the essence of my being
Sanwariya, I can’t forgo the thought of you even for a split second
Maa Yashoda churns the curd,
A dollop of butter rests in her hand.
The realisation dawns on me now,
In the fields of Vrindavan, it is Kanha who herds the cattle
The flute flares up
Meera seeks the dark one (Krishna)
Searching the nooks and corners
Sanwariya, I can’t forgo the thought of you even for a split second

Home Satsangs are a vibrant cultural practice in Indian tradition that bound social groups and fostered healthy connections. People would gather to indulge in discussions on various aspects of life, spirituality and teachings of saints & Sufis and listen to bhajans.
We have started a beautiful series called 'Home Satsang,' featuring impromptu, informal, non-acoustic original recordings of artists' music.
