The double top is the most recent development in classical guitar making. This technique of vacuum gluing two very thin tops tother with Nomex was originally invented in Germany not long after the invention of the Lattice bracing in the end of the 1980s by Gernot Wagner and Matthias Damman. This technique results in a super resonant top that although using very thin wood is strengthened by the Nomex material. Highly notable in spectrogram analysis is the increase of higher over tones and sustain this method has come to be appreciated by luthiers and guitarists around the world. As this is a fairly new methods there are some oppositions but also many misunderstandings to what this technique does to the sound. First of all there are naturally various ways that this technique can be applied. The way we are using this technique on the Maestro model increases the sustain and overtones and combined with our special light dome shaped Lattice Bracing this is a very powerful instrument. At times the double top and Lattice sound can be said to be “artificial” or hollow. However we have balanced this to a round, rich and complex sound. Saying that it is of course not a “traditional” sound and for many a fan braced single top will be more pleasing depending on ones individual taste and preference.
