This is an introduction video for reed makers who are using the Opus1 Gouger for the first time. I discuss the correct process for using the gouger to get your best results. One thing you may wonder about. I narrow the ends of the cane to facilitate the blade smoothly entering the cut. This entails trimming off the outer third of each end of the piece of cane starting up about 1/2 inch from the end. This will look like a little triangular wedge trimmed off. You will see this on the piece of cane that I am gouging in this video.
