Voyage to the North Pacific Ocean and Round the World, by Captain George Vancouver (1801): Book the Second.
In this Volume II of George Vancouver’s 6-part chronicle of his 1791-1795 ‘Vancouver Expedition’ to Canada’s Pacific Northwest, Captain Vancouver and his crew sail from Tahiti to Hawaii, or the 'Sandwich Islands.' From there, they sail east across the Pacific into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, where they explore what is now Washington's Discovery Bay, Admiralty Inlet, Puget Sound, and Birch Bay. From there, they sail up the Salish Sea to Desolation Sound and the Johnstone Strait. After exploring the Broughton Archipelago and the Queen Charlotte Sound, they pay a visit to Friendly Cove in Nootka Sound, on the western shores of Vancouver Island. The book ends with their voyage down down the coast of Vancouver Island to Washington's Gray Habour.
