The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a salt mine in the town of Wieliczka, near Kraków in southern Poland. From Neolithic times, sodium chloride was produced there from the upwelling brine.
We walked down the several different shafts to the ground floor of the salt caves being excavated. It took at least 20 minutes and hundreds of steps!
After touring around the different caverns we took the super small elevator back up a small shaft crammed with 7 people. It shifted from side to side and felt like we were going to drop, very dangerous feeling. We finally reached the top and to get the small door to swing in we had to move even closer together crammed like a tuna can. But ….
Highly recommend the tour!
