Heat isn’t just dangerous for the farm animals, we need to make sure to keep temps below about 85 degrees at the hottest part of the day, and below 80 for the rest of the day for our worm farm too.
Tips to keep worms cool;
*keep your worm bin shaded
*provide deep, damp bedding at all times using shredded brown paper, cardboard, or coconut coir. Remember water can actually hold heat so you don’t want it soaked, just damp.
*use a spray bottle of cool water to keep bedding damp
continue to feed weekly with a variety of foods (no meats) and make sure to include juicy fruits and veggies like berries and cucumber.
*If necessary you could also use cooler ice blocks or frozen water bottles on top of the bedding
*place a thermometer in the bedding to easily check temps at the hottest parts of the day
*use burlap or wool blanket on top of the bedding to hold in moisture and prevent evaporation
