Edward J Becker Memorial Video

Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 9, 1943 to Anthony S. and Agnes R. Mammarella, Edward Becker was 79 years old. He was a resident of Cinnaminson since 1970 but his heart was always in Maple Shade where he had grown up throughout his childhood years.

Beloved husband of 55 years to Jean M. Becker. Loving father of James A. Becker (Elizabeth A. Hahn) and Jennifer M. Becker-Doane (Timothy S. Doane).

Cherished grandfather of Ethan James Doane and Joshua Thomas Doane.

Brother to Mary Catherine Mammarella (Anthony DeAnnuntis), Joseph September Mammarella, Frances Ann Mammarella (Chris Pietrafitta), Susan Virginia Mammarella (Wayne Urffer), the late Leonora Rebecca Jacoby (Mark Jacoby), the late Palmina “Pam” Agnes Mammarella (James Gallagher) and the late Angela Rose Mammarella.

Edd was the patriarch to eleven nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Edd attended Villanova University where he earned a degree in Accounting. He became a Registered Municipal Accountant, Public School Accountant and Licensed Public Accountant. Edd began his career at Edmund D. Bowman and Company in Collingswood, NJ and then served as the Director of Business at Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ.

Edd had 30 years of experience in New Jersey municipal, school and non-profit accounting. Edd was a member and past executive board member, officer and president of the Registered Municipal Accountants Association of New Jersey.

In 1980, Edd ventured on his own as an independent accountant/auditor and enjoyed the operation of his business from his family home. Edd performed many certified audits throughout his career - the City of Absecon, the Brigantine Board of Education, the Cinnaminson Township Board of Education and Cinnaminson Township, the Holly Shores Girl Scout Council, the Margate City Public Library, and the Borough of Newfield, just to name a few.

His son James started to work with Edd when he was in high school and as of the mid-1990’s was working with his father full time. Eventually they became partners in 2000 creating Becker Management, LLC. James and Edd spent many wonderful years working together and serving businesses with bookkeeping and payroll services as well as providing individuals and businesses with tax preparation. Edd retired in 2018 from the business which James proudly continues to run from his home in Philadelphia, PA.

Working from home gave Edd the opportunity to be involved with his children’s activities as they grew up. For both his children, Edd spent time coaching many baseball and softball teams as well as attending various other sporting events, choir concerts, drama/plays and basically supporting anything which his children had a passion for in their lives – their passions were his passions. Even into their adulthood, Edd & Jean continued to attend their children’s events such as shows/concerts for James’ many bands, following Jennifer’s many adventures as well as attending various events for his grandchildren such as football games or karate graduations.

As his passions, Edd enjoyed playing golf, bowling and watching various sports on TV. As an alumni, Edd loved to watch Villanova basketball games and was an ardent fan of the Eagles and Phillies. But, overall, he just loved spending time with his beloved wife, Jean. Their travels and adventures together were a shared love. From trips to Amsterdam, river cruises through Germany and France, trips with friends to the Grand Canyon, cruises with family to Alaska, family adventures at their timeshare in Virginia - Massanutten, golf played on many famous courses such as Pine Valley Golf Club and the Kapalua Bay Course, to visiting friends whom had moved out of state, they loved to spend time together but also to spend their time with other friends and loved ones.

Edward James Becker passed away peacefully on January 5, 2023 at Harmony Village in Cherry Hill.
