Genealogical Research Society of New Orleans (GRSNO) members periodically take field trips to learn more about the history and culture of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. They traveled to Terrebonne Parish on Saturday, May 20, 2023, where they visited three locations. First on the itinerary, the group received a warm welcome to Volumnia Farm, the oldest continually operated family farm in Terrebonne Parish. The farm has remained in the same family since 1828. The farm's owner, Wilson J. Gaidry III, showed the group around his property, which included a historic home, several out-buildings, antique furniture, vehicles, and farm machinery. Next on the trip, the group visited The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), where members took a self-guided tour around the facilities in Cocodrie. For lunch, GRSNO members enjoyed Ceana's Cajun Cookin in Dulac. Following lunch and last on the trip, the group visited Waubun Plantation house in Schriever, where the group toured the historic house, which is not regularly open to the public. In addition to being a historic home, the property is also the location for Waubun Laboratory, where science specimens are prepared and shipped to school districts across the country.
