Desdémona (from Femmes de légende) by Mel (Mélanie) Bonis (1858-1937). Bonis is one of those brilliant women composers who undeservedly have been forgotten by the world due to being a woman. These days her exquisite music is luckily being brought back to the repertoire of many a musician. The title 'Femmes de légende' does not originate from Bonis herself, but is a modern concept referring to a series of musical portraits of women from the world of theatre/opera, mythology, and the Bible, composed over a period of more than 15 years. They were published in different constellations during her lifetime.
