UGO SFORZA (1982*) concert Artist, organist, pianist, and composer live performs César Franck (1822-1890) Chorale No. 2 in B minor on the Mooser (1852) - Hechenberger (1879) - Mauracher (1953) - Woehl (2002) tracker pipe organ of the Stadtpfarrkirche in Linz (Austria). César Franck, of Belgian origin, was organist at Sainte Clotilde in Paris for over 30 years and from 1872 until his death was professor of organ at the Paris Conservatory. Franz Liszt concerning his style:“These poetic works (about six organ pieces) have a clearly marked place alongside the masterpieces of Bach.” Franck was much appreciated and well-liked by his students, who loved to call him "Pater seraphicus" (seraphic father). The Three Chorales represent the mature organ works of Franck, who uses the term "chorale" not in the German sense (meaning the melody of a Lutheran hymn elaborated on the organ) but to describe an original theme harmonized in the manner of a choir. The second chorale immediately appears as a large, meditative emonumental passacaglia which summarizes Franck's strong religious sense; from the solemn tolling of a large bell at the opening to the deep coda "in ecstasy" of the closing, everything appears such as a devout and orderly prayer from the composer. Organ Recital on 25th of April 2024. We thank the photographer Martin Wiesler (https://www.wiesler.eu) for video making at the organ recital.
