On 17th November 1991 Class 37 No.37197 was banking the 6M81 Gloucester to Bescot Speedlink freight up the Lickey Incline when the leading locomotive came to a standstill.
37197 failed to hold the weight of the freight train and rolled back down the incline until it derailed on catch points.
Class 50 No.50008 'Thunderer' was dispatched with a breakdown train to assist.
Class 47 No.47287 arrived the following morning with brand new track.
