𝑰𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔!

𝑂𝑢𝑟 7-day 𝑖𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑒𝑑 with a very early morning arrival at Keflavik airport. After staying the night at a nearby hotel, we hopped on our rental car and excitedly started the new day to explore the famous 𝐺𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑒𝑛 𝐶𝑖𝑟𝑐𝑙𝑒 route, giving us an 𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑠-𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ scrutiny of the 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐾𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑑 𝐶𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟, 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑛𝑡 𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐺𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝐺𝑒𝑦𝑠𝑖𝑟, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑛𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐺𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑓𝑜𝑠𝑠.
We chose the area between Hella and Vik as our base for the next three days, with a lodging in the middle of nowhere, in a vast area of nothing but tranquil silence and beauty.
The days that followed were even more impressive, with hikes to, behind, around, and through imposing waterfalls; out-of-this-world glacier hike (complete with ice picks and crampons) at one of the biggest glaciers in Europe - Seljamajoukull Glacier, which is, very sadly, rapidly melting; an iceberg boat ride at the 𝑀𝑎𝑗𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐 𝐽𝑜𝑘𝑢𝑙𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑜𝑛 𝐺𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑟 𝐿𝑎𝑔𝑜𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑡 𝐷𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝐵𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ, 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑒 𝑢𝑝𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 floating icebergs 𝑎𝑡 the ever-expanding 𝐽𝑜𝑘𝑢𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑜𝑛 𝐿𝑎𝑔𝑜𝑜𝑛. A stop at 𝑅𝑒𝑦𝑛𝑖𝑠𝑓𝑗𝑎𝑟𝑎 𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑆𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐵𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ also gave us an appreciation of the 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑏𝑎𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑛𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑐 𝑒𝑟𝑢𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑎 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑔𝑜.
Our cherry on top! On our last night in the south, in a confluence of clear skies, good weather, and unbelievable luck, we’re blessed with the spectacular appearance of the Northern Lights. The Borealis did not hold back that night, and gave us a show of a lifetime - brighter, fancier, longer, more proud; definitely made up for the long hiatus; she put us in a trance, with indescribable feelings in that wonderful moment; what an encore! As the song goes…”some people wait a lifetime, for a moment like this!”
After the spectacular Northern Lights show, we retreated back to the city on our last 3-days, to experience the vibrance of Reykjavik. Not to be missed were the splendid baths at Sky Lagoon, and the more famous Blue Lagoon. After our physically-demanding explorations of the wonderful south, the Lagoons were exactly ‘just what the doctor ordered’ to rejuvenate our ‘tired-but-grateful’ souls.
True to the saying – all good things must come to an end; the trouble with wonderful hellos are sad goodbyes. We left this Island of the Viking Gods with heavy heart; but the experiences we’ve had are memories of the lifetime.
Truly a major check in our bucket!
To God Be All The Glory! 🙏
