CA Approves New Medical Assistant Regulations - Effective April 1, 2022

Effective April 1, 2022, NCCA accredited medical assistant certification providers can submit applications to be approved in California.

The California Medical Board (CMB) has not previously recognized for-profit, certification providers, including NHA. Now they will use NCCA accreditation as their benchmark. ​

Limiting certification providers in the state put limits on high-demand job opportunities for qualified Medical Assistants. ​

NHA has been actively working, for a number of years, with the CMB and has submitted proposed language along with industry petition and feedback to CMB to strike the requirement that certification providers carry non-profit, tax-exempt status and has proven successful.​

Recognition of nationally accredited certification organizations by the CMB in California would expand job opportunities to not only NHA-certified but all nationally certified medical assistants in the state.​
