Effective April 1, 2022, NCCA accredited medical assistant certification providers can submit applications to be approved in California.
The California Medical Board (CMB) has not previously recognized for-profit, certification providers, including NHA. Now they will use NCCA accreditation as their benchmark.
Limiting certification providers in the state put limits on high-demand job opportunities for qualified Medical Assistants.
NHA has been actively working, for a number of years, with the CMB and has submitted proposed language along with industry petition and feedback to CMB to strike the requirement that certification providers carry non-profit, tax-exempt status and has proven successful.
Recognition of nationally accredited certification organizations by the CMB in California would expand job opportunities to not only NHA-certified but all nationally certified medical assistants in the state.
