Day 5 of Vacation: Heading to Monterey Bay

Day 5 of our vacation we left Eureka heading to Monterey Bay for a couple of days. About 45 minutes south of Eureka is the Avenue of the Giants Auto Tour. It's a 32 mile drive that parallels highway 101. It is a beautiful drive traveling through Redwoods forest. There is multiple places to stop and explore. The drive travels through a couple of small towns. We missed a road closed sign, went a couple of miles and had to turn around but the was a scenic drive.

After the drive we traveled through the San Francisco Bay area. Instead of listening to Goggle and took the Golden Gate Bridge and pay an $8 toll, we traveled the toll free way. Big mistake. Driving took us much longer because of traffic on San Francisco highways. We were running low on gas, hungry and hadn't been out of the cars for hours. We were getting cranky with each other. With the gas light on we found a gas station on the way to Santa Cruz. In Santa Cruz there was an accident on highway 1 causing a larger back up. Since we weren't going anywhere anytime soon we found a place for dinner. We stopped at Carpos for dinner. It was a wonderful meal of fish and chips.

By the time we finished the accident had cleared and the traffic was starting to move slowly. We finished traveling to Monterey Bay and ending at the Monterey Bay Inn. Our hotel was waterfront with sea lions laying on the beach next to us. I love this hotel. It was my favorite hotel from out vacation.
Breakfast is included but they have a flyer you fill out and put on the handle of your door by midnight and also we can choose what time it is delivered.
