Simple fletching, almost prehistoric, on bamboo arrow with hyper-short wooden point.
Materials used :
artificial sinew,
natural staghorn sumac resin,
peacock feathers,
commercial bamboo shaft,
sandstone & flint flake
Bows :
my fifth angular primitive selfbow [ very weak, but apparently accurate ]
commercial KTB, snthetic, 52" long [ said to be 40# @ 31", but still too strong for me ]
Results :
The new arrow finally broke when shot for the 2nd time (1rst shot : perfect) with the KTB :
wrong arrow spine ? [no problem with the weak bow]
This simple fletching can't guide the arrow on a straight path, when the distance to the target is too short ?
Actually, I also regularly break the 3-feathers-bamboo-arrows when I shoot on relatively dense targets @ 5m distance. Not sure the simple fletching is the only culprit here...
(About the splitting of the feathers : the feathers were not wet enough in this experiment (I forget about them for more that 24h and they eventually became almost dry) ; the real thing is well demonstrated by Allergic Hobbit, at the beginning of "177 - Fletching A Southwest Native American Style Reed Arrow" )
