LOST HORIZON deleted song BURT BACHARACH

Deleted love song between Peter Finch and Liv Ullmann in the musical classic LOST HORIZON. Music by BURT BACHARACH, Lyrics by HAL DAVID. Very important scene and song was cut from this film after it's opening. After meeting the High Lama, Richard Conway, played by Peter Finch sings IF I COULD GO BACK. His love interest, Catherine, played by Liv Ullmann had a follow up song entitled WHERE FAITH BEGINS, KNOWLEDGE ENDS. While these songs were beautiful, execs at Columbia felt they slowed down the picture. By the time this love song, I COME TO YOU is introduced into the story, execs felt it would have been awkward to have Peter Finch's character break out into song so late in the picture. They couldn't have been more wrong. This song is essential to these characters. It's the only moment in the film when the lovers kiss. A beautiful scene and a great song. Terribly underrated. This is the only anti war musical fantasy ever made. It deserves to be rediscovered.
