A Lightfastness rating on the pencils. Hexagonal barrel is good on an angled table, doesn't slide off. Nice thick 3.8mm lead, when I did the swatching, the hardness and the texture feels like Polychromos. I was wondering if it's oil based. I searched and I saw this:

According to Caran 'dAche:

Luminance and Pablo are both wax based pencils. In fact, Caran d'Ache does not manufacture an oil based pencil.

There are however several significant differences between the two.

The Pablo is a bit harder. Most of the colors are very close to a 6B hardness, when compared to Graphite. They are perfect as an all around permanent color pencil (not water soluble).
Because they are a bit harder than the Luminance, which average around an 8B hardness, the Pablos are suited for all general color pencil work, detailed work and crosshatching.
The Pablo pencil cores are dipped in a blend of hot waxes. Each color has it's own recipe of synthetic waxes to insure consistency of hardness, to compensate for the fact that pigments all have their unique textures.

The Luminance are much more light fast (even though the Pablos are still more light fast than any other brand). Because of their softness, they have incredible surface coverage. They can be blended very easily and the colors are extremely concentrated and vivid.
Like all color pencils by Caran d'Ache, Luminance pencils will not develop a bloom, even when up to 6 layers are added. Luminance pencils can be used as a top layer over other pencils as well, to vastly increase light fastness.
Because of the high wax content in Luminance pencils, they can also be heated and melted to achieve blends that way (For instance with an Icarus board).
In Luminance pencils, the waxes (30% - 40%) are cold ground and blended with the pigments and binders, so that they are evenly dispersed throughout the cores. Again, because some color pigments are harder / softer than others, each color has it's own recipe to insure uniformity within the assortment.
