Join Beth Hall, Ruthmere Docent, as she presents a Gallery Talk called "A Girl's Education: 19th Century American Marking Samplers." Learn about how samplers (pieces of embroidery/cross-stitching used as display of needlework skill) were essential to a young girl's education in the 1800s, and hear the history behind the sampler in Ruthmere's collection.
This Gallery Talk was presented at Ruthmere on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023.
Ruthmere presents Gallery Talks the first week of each month, which feature a twenty-minute discussion on an object/artwork within the Ruthmere collection, a person or event in local history, or a topic from the Victorian/Edwardian eras. 2023 Gallery Talks are free and open to the public.
