Timeline: Pushback 00:00:00, Safety Video 00:05:50, Seats for Departure 00:11:25, Takeoff, 00:13:15, Start of Descent 01:50:10, Final Approach 01:58:45, Arrival at the Gate 02:06:00
Flight: This is a recording of United Airlines flight 294 (15 Oct. 15, 07:31 AM) from Seattle (KSEA) to San Francisco (KSFO) in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. The flight's track is aligned to real-world flight tracking data. See flightaware.com (http://bit.ly/1jQqXUH) for further information..
An Airbus 320 is usally operated on this flight and the departure / arrival gates are most likely incorrect. Considerable work has been done to make the sound more realistic, so please use your headphones to get the best audio experience.
System Specs: One of the major changes I’ve put in place for this video is that it hasn’t been rendered on my personal machine, but on a dedicated server instance in the cloud.
The instance is hosted at amazon web services (http://aws.amazon.com) and provides access to Intel Xeon E5-2670 (Sandy Bridge) CPUs, 15 GB of RAM and an up-to-date NVIDIA GPU (GRID K520) with 4 GB of video memory. The hardware provided allows me to render better graphics, lower the overall processing times and run rendering processes for different videos in parallel on separate instances.
With this setup, I can prepare a flight on my laptop and replay/record the video in the cloud. Getting FSX, the corresponding add-ons, as well as FS Recorder 2.18a to run on a Windows server instance, however, took quite a while, but it is running stable now.
Software: Windows Server 2012 R2, Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2, PMDG 737-800 NGX, FTX Global Base Pack, REX4 Texture Direct, Active Sky Next, World of AI, KSEA and KSFO sceneries and a multitude of custom sounds/effects incorporated during post processing.
Please leave a “like” if you liked the video, or a “dislike” if you didn’t and feel free to leave a comment in case your feelings are more complicated.
It takes quite some time to make these videos, so I’ll try to keep you posted on my progress on twitter @windowseatfsx, google+ and facebook.
Thanks for watching!
