The first of a series of audio recordings to be featured on the channel. Following a poll posted on the community page, it seems there is some interest in audio recordings so I will be slowly interspersing them with normal ringing videos. Don't worry if this isn't your thing, a normal video will be up next Sunday!
The church of St Peter in the East Sussex Ouse Valley village of Rodmell holds a ring of six bells. Until 2019, these bells had hung derelict and untouched in nearly 60 years, until a local ringer decided to head a project to restore them. This saw the strengthening of the existing frames, retuning of the bells and rehanging on all new traditional fittings. The work was undertaken by TLB Services (now Blyth & Co). The cracked 5th bell was welded, and a the tenor largely tuned as it was flat of the other five bells.
The front three were cast in 1909 by John Warner & Sons and hang in a timber frame of that year in the belfry level of the tower. The fourth and fifth were cast in 1664 by William I Eldridge, and the tenor in 1641 by Bryan II Eldridge. These bells hang in an ancient wooden frame constructed in c1650, located at the top of the tower walls, extending up into the spire. The tenor weighs 5-2-24cwt and is tuned to 'Bb'.
The bells are rung from a recently refurbished ringing chamber, and the ringing featured here was recorded on Saturday 3rd May 2025, the method being Buxton Bob Minor, conducted by Ollie Watson. The audio was recorded by @RingerLuca651.
6 bells, 5-2-24cwt in Bb.
