Bach - Sinfonia No. 15 in B minor, BWV 801 I Three-Part Invention I Piano Solo

Oggi condivido l’Invenzione a tre voci n. 15 in si minore di Johann Sebastian Bach, un brano che ho costruito con un lavoro lento e meticoloso.

Il mio studio parte sempre da una velocità estremamente ridotta, spesso anche meno della metà di quella finale, talvolta persino un quarto. Progredisco con grande gradualità, solo quando riesco a sentire il gesto morbido, sicuro e ben organizzato nel corpo e nel suono.

La mia insegnante mi diceva spesso che nella ripetizione c’è una magia, e con il tempo ho imparato a riconoscerla: è proprio attraverso la ripetizione lenta e attenta che, a un certo punto, inizia a emergere un’immagine, un filo conduttore mi appare.

In questa Invenzione vedo il brano come un crescendo continuo.
Il soggetto viene esposto subito dalle prime due voci che, per me, restano inizialmente misteriose: procedono con un passo scorrevole ma cadenzato. Quando il soggetto si spezzetta, ho l’impressione di una maggiore circospezione, di un incedere più incerto.
Successivamente il soggetto riappare nella prima voce, questa volta in maggiore, e acquista sicurezza. Nelle progressioni successive il carattere si fa più dolce, passando con naturalezza dal maggiore al minore più volte.
Con il susseguirsi degli arpeggi ascendenti, il climax raggiunge il suo punto più alto.

Today I share Johann Sebastian Bach’s Three-Part Invention No. 15 in B minor, a piece I built through a very slow and careful working process.

My practice always begins at an extremely reduced tempo, often less than half of the final speed, sometimes even a quarter. I move forward very gradually, only when I can play with a sense of softness, security, and physical ease.

My teacher used to say that there is a kind of magic in repetition, and over time I have come to believe this deeply. Through slow and attentive repetition, an image eventually starts to appear — a guiding thread.

I experience this Invention as a continuous crescendo.
The subject is presented immediately from the first two voices, which at first feel mysterious to me, moving forward with a flowing yet articulated pace. When the subject is fragmented, I sense more caution and uncertainty.
Later, the subject returns in the first voice, now in the major mode, gaining confidence. In the sequences, the character becomes gentler, moving naturally back and forth between major and minor.
With the succession of ascending arpeggios, the music reaches its highest climax.
