AgilityFeat CEO Arin Sime visited the the Business of Software Conference in Raleigh NC and here's three things he has learned so far, that will help you lead your SaaS company to new heights.
1️⃣ Remember that in this age of #AI, our customers are going through just as much change as we are. Try to focus your value proposition around painkillers, not vitamins.
Painkillers are an immediate need that your users have, and which they will pay for. Vitamins are good, but longer term and more aspirational and won't grab their attention during times of disruption. 2️⃣ Founder led sales don't scale! Founders are often the best salespeople early in your business, but this won't scale and you need to start writing things down sooner rather than later, so that you can build processes and sales playbooks for the teams that will help you actually scale.
One tip I liked was keeping a "Brag book", where you jot down successes and things that worked well. This is an easy way to start building a list of best practices that can become the foundation of your playbook. (from Kristie K. 3️⃣ Pay attention to user cancellations in your platform, even more than new user sales! Marketing efforts that lead to new sales tend to be linear, because buying $X of ads tends to lead to Y new customers, so your marketing can only scale linearly with your investment in marketing. Although something like customer referrals can bend that curve upward, it still is hard to go beyond linear growth.
But user cancellations scale exponentially as you grow (in a bad way!), because cancellations tend to be a percentage of your user base, and so as your user base grows, the number of cancellations also grows and so the financial impact of those cancellations can flatten your growth curve faster than you realize.
