94 Tree house
1
In the summer of 1966
Our high school days now behind us.
Larry and I would pretend we were still kids,
Before adult skills became more of a must.
2
It’s too bad that once you get good at a thing,
That thing has often passed you by,
But we had 90 days to get it right,
Or know the reason why.
3
So we decided to build a tree house,
Remember, we were 18 years old.
We both had a bent for building things,
So construction would be big and bold.
4
We went down to the banks of the river,
Where tall trees soar in the air,
And a large supply of sawn lumber,
That had drifted ashore everywhere.
5
So with some rope and giant nails,
We built a castle 75 feet to the top.
We worked all day until it got dark,
And it was time to stop.
6
The next day we convinced a friend
To buy us two bottles of liquor.
We went to the top and took a sip,
It tasted bad, so we decided to chug it quicker.
7
I don’t remember what happened next,
By morning we were on the ground with our gin.
At least we had proven we were still kids,
So we never returned to the tree house again.
