On May 19th 2024, my wife and I are on our way to camp inside Yosemite Valley. Some how I was able to secure a spot for 5 days at the Upper Pines Campground.
Coming from the Bay Area and driving a 32ft motorhome with a toad, HY 140 to enter the valley. Easy drive, with wide roads, no switch backs or cliffs.
After checking at the front gate, we drive straight through the Arch Rock entrance. Two house-sized boulders, situated on both sides of the road, form an archway for visitors to pass through
Upper Pines, Lower Pines and North Pines campground is located right in the heart of Yosemite Valley.
Upper Pines Campground is the largest of the three campgrounds. They all offer paved roads, flush toilets, and drinking water. Each campsite contains a picnic table, fire ring, and a food storage locker.
There are no electric, water or sewer hook-ups available. A free dump station is located on-site along with potable water. Generator use is allowed, but only between 7 am and 9 am, noon and 2 pm, and 5 pm to 7 pm.
Lucky for us, we have solar and Lithium batteries, didn't have to use the Generator for all 5 days.
Our first hike was to Mirror Lake. From our campsite is was only a 1.2 mile hike to one side of the lake. The next day we rode our bikes on the paved road to the other side.
Lower Yosemite Falls is a 320-foot drop water fall. in spring and early summer when the waterfall peaks. you can expect to get sprayed with water when standing on the footbridge near its base.
Bridalveil Fall is one of the most prominent waterfalls in Yosemite Valley. the waterfall is (617 ft) in height and flows year round.
Vernal Fall was my favorite waterfall. it’s a 317-foot waterfall on the Merced River. The 1.5 mile hike to the Vernal Fall Footbridge and back, took us roughly 3 hours. The elevation gain is 1000 ft.
We drove to Mariposa Grove to see giant sequoias. Two of its trees are among the 30 largest sequoias in the world. The Grizzly Giant Ranked the 26th.
From there we headed to Glacier Point. an overlook with of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls.
The fastest way for us to get around Yosemite was our ebikes. There are over 12 miles of paved bike paths available in Yosemite Valley. We rode everyday. Here are a some clips of the valley.
