This is a hand carved "Green Man" Medieval Rebec (Medieval Violin) carved from a Damson wood log, with a foliated head and fingerboard, and a "Tree of Life" decorated sound hole.
In total, this took around 100 hours to make.
Rebecs are bowed string instruments from the Medieval era and the early Renaissance, from the 13th to 16th Centuries. They had from one to five strings and a body carved from a solid piece of wood. They were played by Troubadours, Minstrels and Musicians at feasts and gatherings.
