Common Threads was a documentary film that was produced by the Mattatuck Museum, the NACCP of Waterbury, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Alumnae Chapter in Waterbury. The film was the culmination of the African American Oral History Project which aimed to collect oral histories from the elders in the Waterbury African American community. The film discusses Waterbury and black history in Waterbury during the late 1800s through the late 1900s. The participants discuss work, home life, community, and challenges. They also identify the first black nurse in Waterbury, the first black police officer, and other firsts.
Oral history participants included: Willa Mae Barnett, Addie Booker, Hilda Burke, Theodore Hatcher, Earl Hunter, Marjorie Mitchell, Margaret Moore, Maydie Rhinehart, Catherine Smith, George Ward, Carolene Watts, Kay Wyrick.
