Paddling downstream from East Lock to Yalding canoe platform.

Lock Distances Downstream...
East Lock to Oak Weir Lock, 0.75 (3⁄4) mile.
Oak Weir Lock to Sluice Weir Lock, 1.25 (1 1⁄4) miles.
Sluice Lock to Yalding, 2 miles.


I have added a playlist entitled "Medway Canoe Trail (Revisited)" and am currently paddling the entire trail from Tonbridge Slipway downstream to Allington Lock in sections. Parking for river access is extremely difficult at many of the locks on the trial, so I often have to park and paddle upstream for several miles to then video the downstream sections.

About the trail...
Spanning 29 km/18 miles, the trail starts in Tonbridge and heads out into the countryside of the Medway Valley.

The trail takes you through various locks including East Lock, Oak Weir Lock, and Sluice Weir Lock. At Hampstead Lock in Yalding, you can rest at the access point.

Teston Country Park is the next stop along the trail and is another great spot for your own picnic lunch. Continue to Maidstone, where the old and new effortlessly combine. Paddling alongside the archbishop's palace, you will see the majestic beauty of this building as you make your final approach toward Allington Lock.
