Percy Heath (1923–2005) was a legendary American jazz bassist best known as a longtime member of the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ). With his impeccable timing, rich tone, and understated elegance, Heath became one of the most respected bassists of the bebop and cool jazz eras. He performed with icons like Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Charlie Parker, and was a founding member of the Heath Brothers, a group he formed with his siblings, saxophonist Jimmy Heath and drummer Albert "Tootie" Heath. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Percy Heath helped shape the sound of modern jazz.
