UGX 24Bn Set Aside for Palm Oil Compensation
The Uganda Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, is set to undertake a verification exercise to identify and verify Project Affected Persons (affected by the National Oil Palm Project in Buvuma and Sango Bay).
This was revealed in a press conference by the State Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, on Friday morning at the Uganda Media Center.
According to the Minister, the land was valued using the Government Valuer, with the knowledge and cooperation of the affected persons. An amount of Uganda Shillings 52 billion was worked out as required for compensation of the Project Affected Persons.
Minister Kyakulaga confirmed that, out of the UGX 52 billion required, the Ministry of Agriculture has received UGX 24 billion, of which UGX 14 billion has been allocated to compensate Project Affected Persons in Buvuma, while UGX 10 billion is to compensate Project Affected Persons in Sango Bay.
