My outline below:
The reason it goes from black and white to color is this, the character is stuck in the past, in how she was left behind. The moment she decides to end her life she is making a move forward, even though it's not the most postive move it's better than sittin garound remembering life.
The subliminal message of course is her hanging that flashes with the message "We have never seen a ghost" and "It's not what frightens me the most" showing her hidden desires to be done with this life.
