Misha Collins' near-death experience on the set of Supernatural has been revealed by director Richard Speight Jr., who says he "almost killed [him]." Collins portrayed Castiel on the cast of Supernatural since season 4, where he's frequently worked alongside Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). This has included a number of harrowing storylines he's been involved with. ScreenRant's Jordan Williams was in attendance at the "Road to Hell: Supernatural" panel at CCXP, where Speight Jr. revealed one episode of Supernatural he directed where Collins nearly died filming. The director explained how Collins had to crawl across the road in season 12, episode 12, "Stuck in the Middle (With You)," with Castiel almost getting hit by a car. At first, a greenscreen was going to be used to simulate a truck driving just inches away from Collins' head. But, when it came time for filming, Speight Jr. decided they could use a real truck, giving the actor a guarantee of safety before going through with it. He commented that "I almost killed Misha Collins" when filming the scene. The episode focuses on Sam, Dean, and Castiel helping the brothers' mother, Mary, with a case she's working on, unaware that the British Men of Letters are involved. This puts them in danger, with Castiel almost getting killed in the road while crawling across it. As Speight Jr. reveals, though, the stunt was a genuinely risky decision. While later seasons of Supernatural evolved the story, one of the prime mainstays was that of Castiel's involvement with the brothers. While he was a recurring presence in season 4, Collins was promoted to series regular by season 5. He retained this status for every season of the show after, except seasons 7 and 8 where he was recurring again. This surprising behind-the-scenes story emphasizes the dedication the creatives involved in the series had to ensuring the episode was perfected, even down to the smallest details. However, it also indicates Speight Jr. might not do the same thing again in a similar situation, especially given how unsafe it was to drive a truck mere inches from Collins' head. Luckily, with no actual injuries, the eight-year-old episode managed to air without
