The Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band (BVCCB) performs Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis", arranged by Dan Arsenault, on Sunday, December 07, 2025 at Uxbridge High School Auditorium, Uxbridge, MA. Conducted by Justin Falvo. This concert program celebrated the holiday season by blending festive favorites, reimagined historical music, and cornerstone concert band works into a warm, joyful program that connected musical traditions across centuries.

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, also known as the Tallis Fantasia, is a work for string orchestra by the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. It was composed in 1910 and performed for the first time in September of that year at Gloucester Cathedral for the Three Choirs Festival. Vaughan Williams himself conducted, and the composition proved to be a major success. He revised the work twice, in 1913 and 1919.

The work takes its name from the original composer of the melody, Thomas Tallis (c.1505–1585). Many of Vaughan Williams' works are associated with or inspired by the music of the English Renaissance. This piece combines the simple, elegant thematic material of Elizabethan church composer Thomas Tallis, expanded and modernized through the luxurious harmonies of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Fantasia was used to great effect in the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band, hereby known as BVCCB, is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2002 & is based in Uxbridge, MA. BVCCB is made up of over 80 volunteer musicians. Our members encompass a wide range of ages, careers, locations, & skill levels. It is a shared love of music that brings this tight knit group together! As this group continues to grow, we are endlessly humbled by the support of family, friends, members, & surrounding communities.
