Part II of the Mobile EmComms project that is in conjunction with the 1st RF node project currently under way that serves our first agency. This IP phone, with a Mikrotik hAP ac lite, (or other AREDN-capable router), using a LiFePO4 battery with a 30 watt solar panel could provide indefinite communication after a disaster such as an earthquake or zombie apocalypse. The phone is the last resort, since the operator can download the GrandStream app now, and continue to use their smart phone even after the first people have been eaten and the power goes out.
Yes, we try to have a little fun with this, only because we have to... This entire subject is extremely serious. Hopefully through some terrible amateur videos, we can get more people involved in this network building that DOES, I admit, seem boring at first glance. Only those who see the big picture, and have enough life experience will be able to appreciate the value that AREDN brings to the table. Unfortunately, most Americans are fat, lazy, sheltered and have been protected from worst side of life; so they dismiss the idea that their life might some day depend on communication. So, do a little work now, and help make your community more resilient for whatever is to come. Don't let a disaster convince you that communication is vital. PPPPPP
AREDN OG- East Tn Mesh Network- is currently building out the wireless AREDN mesh network in east Tennessee in support of emergency services and the community at large in the event of a catastrophic disaster rendering commercial power and internet inoperable. For absolute beginners, start at AREDN 1, Getting Started. Advertised services will be in a future video, for connecting IP phones, cameras, servers and much more onto the AREDN mesh network.
Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network provides high-speed wireless internet up to 50 miles away line-of-sight, and can be built on solar and battery power in order to be completely independent of commercial power. The more nodes the better, making everyone more resilient and likely to survive a disaster. Visit https://AREDNKnoxville.com for more information and to sign up as a node operator, or to host a node on your property. Free equipment is provided for those who qualify. This is a self-funded volunteer community service, and not a commercial venture.
