2026 GMC Terrain Denali POV test drive, spirited drive, highway drive, 0-60 acceleration, exhaust sound, review.
For 2025 GMC completely redesigned their compact SUV, the Terrain. I’ve always liked the Terrain’s truck-inspired design, and this third generation keeps that rugged look without trying too hard. It still stands out, and that’s a good thing.
The 3rd gen Terrain sits on GM’s new VSS-S platform, which is their modular platform used in SUVs like a Chevy Equinox or Traverse, and features a strut front suspension and a multilink setup in the back, combined with regular, non-adaptive dampers.
We only have one engine option at the moment - a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder, which makes 175 hp, however, torque is different depending on whether you get a FWD model or an AWD. FWD has 184 lb-ft, AWD has 203.
The torque isn’t the only thing that differs those 2 models - a FWD get a CVT and in case of an AWD, we get an 8-speed automatic transmission, so I can already tell you skip the FWD and get an AWD, since it’s only a $2,000 option.
We have 3 trims - base Elevation which starts at a little over $31,000, AT4 starting at around $40,000 and the tested Denali which cost you about $45,000 fully loaded.
Other SUVs to consider are a Chevy Equinox, GMC Acadia, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR V, Buick Envision, Ford Edge, Subaru Forester, Ford Escape, Chevy Blazer.
