Blaze Weednix - Urgency (Do or Die) | Furnace Tracker

It's here, at long last. This is my first original song in 8 years. 3 months of work, on and off, lots of experimenting, lots of failed experiments too, and definitely a lot of patience because working with this many channels is a nightmare, mostly because of drums. Did I already say that mixing is also a challenge? On that note, PLEASE LISTEN IN STEREO, I have no idea why but mono sounds really bad.

I submitted this so it becomes a Furnace demo. Hopefully it gets accepted.

The first 5 frames of the song have lived in my head for years. I could never figure out anything beyond that, and I couldn't come up with an appropriate style for it. One day I came up with the chorus melody, and after a lot more thinking, I decided that the song would fit in the Mega Man Battle Network style.

I'm not a purist so I wanted to achieve that with an FM chip, the Game Boy chip, and some sample channels. Little by little I added more detail and ended up with this monster of a module. The channels are compacted in the video because I obviously can't fit them all in a single screen. I left the bass and melody channels uncompacted so you have something to see at least.

My concept for this song is something that would play in a dire situation where there's a lot at stake, and there's no choice but to fight on. I feel like it would fit a sudden emergency situation, or a pre-final boss scenario.

I ended the song with a sort of tribute to MMBN. I took the leitmotif from MMBN6 and adapted it to the style of this song. My main inspiration is "Break the Storm", and the final section is reminiscent of "Two of Braves". Check out those songs and you'll probably find some similarities between them and my song. MMBN rocks.

I might make a followup song one day. I do have some ideas in my head, but for now I'd like to try something simpler, this song was really exhausting to make due to the amount of balancing you have to do between all the parts.
