The Canadian Corps’ most important operational assignment, the Battle of Second Arras ran from 26 August to 3 September 1918. Currie called this the corps’ hardest battle and its greatest victory. The Canadians defeated 11 German divisions, broke through a 15 kilometre deep zone of defences, and forced two German armies to retreat across the Canal du Nord.
Based on exhaustive research of original Canadian, British, and German sources, Dr Bill Stewart examines each day of the battle. This includes the objectives, resources, enemy forces, and the outcome told through a series of animated maps. Interspersed will be an analysis of the twelve factors that assisted or hindered the corps’ operations in the battle. The presentation gives a comprehensive understanding of what happened and why.
