Join the Off The Rails Jeep Club as we continue our Colorado adventure—this time heading from Estes Park to Keystone for a high-alpine day on some of the state’s most iconic trails. After a scenic drive through the Rockies to our hotel, we set out for a loop that delivered everything: beauty, challenge, history, and big mountain views.
Webster Pass Road welcomed us with wide-open scenery, smooth elevation gains, and the kind of peaceful, untouched landscape you hope for on a late-season run. From there we climbed into Handcart Gulch, a stretch of narrow shelf roads with steep drop-offs and rugged terrain. The old mining scars scattered across the valley added a haunting, historic feel to the trail. We even spotted a couple of moose—but of course, they were too far away to video.
Then came the star of the day: Red Cone. The climb to the summit at 12,801 feet was the most technical and challenging part of the trip, with loose rock, steep grades, and thin high-country air. But the views from the top? Absolutely unreal—panoramic ridge lines, endless peaks, and that unmistakable feeling of being on top of the world.
We wrapped up by descending the famous one-way ridge and reconnecting with Webster Pass for the cruise back into Keystone. Perfect weather, quiet trails, and one epic mountain experience.
