Located in Conwy County Borough, and on the north coast of Wales, is the town of Llanfairfechan.
The town's name is Welsh for 'little church of St. Mary'. For centuries it was a tiny coastal farming village. This began to change in the Victorian era.
During the mid 19th century, large sections of land were sold to John Platt, MP for Oldham and reputedly the wealthiest textile merchant in the world at that time, and Richard Luck North, a retired solicitor from Leicester. Development took place around Station Road and Village Road.
In 1845 work began on building a railway line from Chester to Holyhead. By 1860 Llanfairfechan had its own station along this line. It remains open to this day, and forms part of the North Wales Coast Line.
