In our search for new, affordable flying cameras, we came across the Hawkeye Thumb 4K camera. It fulfils at least a large part of our requirements:
4K resolution
AV output
ISO adjustable
The following requirements are not automatically met:
FOV less than 100° (no fisheye effect)
Gopro form factor
Weight around 80g
These last two requirements are based on the fact that we like to use Gopro gimbals. We have a lot of experience with models from Tarot and Walkera.
We were able to achieve the form factor with a DIY adapter (wood). We had to add 40g of lead for additional weight.
Please note that the installation shown is a prototype. We used our old Sky Hero Spider 1000 as the carrier system. The test system is not optimally balanced. Some adjustments will be necessary for professional use.
Nevertheless, the result is pretty amazing. The optical quality is impressive.
The Gyroflow software works wonders when it comes to adjusting the FOV and stabilisation. However, the time required for this should not be underestimated. Gyroflow takes around 2 hours for 10 minutes of recording (at 4K resolution). Nevertheless, the result is worth it.
