The Euxine Disaster: Lottery of the Doomed

In 1874, the British merchant ship "Euxine" caught fire in the South Atlantic, triggering one of the most haunting and little-known maritime disasters of the 19th century. As the ship burned, 31 crew members were forced into lifeboats, setting off a terrifying survival ordeal at sea.

In one of those lifeboats, Second Mate "James Archer" and eight men drifted for "23 days"—exhausted, starving, and hopeless—until a "deadly decision" was made.
